Major creepy crawlies alert....

Sitting in the kitchen chatting with Nanny, I thought I saw a bit of debris on the floor. I leaned over the arm of my chair for a closer look. Here's the conversation that ensued:

Me: "Oh my gosh, Nanny, it's a Scorpion, get me a shoe."
Nanny: (leaning closer) "Where?"
Me: "Right there, get me a shoe."
Nanny: "Where?"
Me: (shouting a bit) "Just get me a shoe!!!"
Nanny: (handing me the shoe) "Poke it to see if it's alive."
Me: (poking said Scorpion who then scuttles across the floor) "Ahhhhhhh!!! (Smash)
Nanny: (at the same time) "Ahhhhhhh!!

Here are the post-mortem pictures. Sorry ShoSho and Aunt Buffy, there was no way I was going to "rescue" this guy.

I included this one for scale, it looks pretty small now, after it's dead and flushed and all. Definitely still has a very high "creep factor" for me.

Here's how we felt for days.

My Man had to flush the dead body for me, I was too freaked out. Note to self: time to do a little googling on this here critter and find out more info.....

ICK! At church camp they were always around on the concrete floors- a few tips from my limited knowledge of scorpion avoidance. Wear shoes--- all the time since you have seen one-- BUT FIRST, check said shoes before inserting feet. Creepy crawlies like dark little spaces! Sorry you found that. Hopefully it was a fluke. I think your chickadee definitely summed up the feelings on this subject!

Good eye and speedy action saved the day! Keep us posted about the little fellow's M O. I'll bring my flip flops to wear as prevention against attack. Love the devilish "DO" on my littlest angel!

Have a Very Merry Un-birthday to you, to you....

The tallest of the small is 6.5 years old. We had the usual half-birthday fun. At school, on her half-birthday, one of her friends told her that half birthdays aren't real. She mentioned this to me when she got off the bus. Then she asked me if half birthdays are "real." Hmmmmm. "What do you think?" I asked her (love that parenting technique). Well, she explained that lots of people don't celebrate their half birthdays, most people probably. But since we do, they are real for us. Sounds good to me : ) You get to celebrate their lives twice as many times- how can I resist, besides, it involves CAKE people! Happy half-birthday!
