Waiting for the light

We're waiting and waiting and waiting.........

It's raining....on prom night.....like the rain I am falling for you....raindrops keep falling on my head....rain won't you tell me that I love her so....(name it and claim it).

Yep, it's been raining here and we have been loving it. We didn't realize how much we missed the thunderstorms or how the rain comes and cools everything off. In Tacoma there was drizzle, but nothing like this.

Picture this. It's Friday night, and My Man and I are having a highball (cosmo/kamakaze), if you will. The kitchen window is wide open and the wind is blowing - it's cool and smells fresh. Suddenly, the lights go out.

No matter, it's not that dark, really. So we sit. We start to think about how we have hot water "on demand" and no hot water tank, so no washdowns tonight for the little engines. We have a gas stove, so we can light it with a match for dinner, no problem.

We set about like little Amish people making dinner and moving through our routine. The lights do not come back on.

We continue to think about how we will make due. The lights do not come back on.

We think about how it might be weeks before the electricity comes back on. We have been here long enough to know that. The lights do not come back on.

We are still rather laissez-faire about it, but perhaps we are getting a bit concerned. We wonder if we should call someone....ha ha.

I look in the back and see our friend Senora Bruna on her porch. She is an older woman (she's 91 and AMAZING!!) who happily says "Ciao" when I go outside, and is helping me with my italian. I decide to walk over and ask her if their electricity is out.

I see through her windows that they have electricity. She stands up and tests the porch light- perhaps re-assuring herself as well as me. Yep, theirs is fine.

She then asks me if I pushed the button to "reset" the electricity...ummmm, I only knew what she was talking about as I have blown the fuse many times : )

So I went home and "pushed the button" yet again. Boom, we had electricity again. How long would we have gone without if I didn't ask?! YIKES!! We would still be waiting....

Cindy Bullens...Grease! Of course! Did you know Grease is opening on Broadway in June with Max....as Danny? I can't wait to see it. Percy seems so nondescript without power. I don't think she cares. Candles? Lanterns? In the days of CEI we had many lovely nopower nights. Hasn't happened in a bit, since the winter of 70?????when we were Amish for several days with only the fireplace for warmth. Ah the days! To have a button, would be heaven. Or maybe we had heaven. Love the update! Power on!

waiting for the light is poetry. I was swept away by the summer breeze and rain that smelled fresh and clean.....makes me long for a thunderstorm of our own. No doubt we'll get ours soon enough. Percy is just too adorable as always! It's really neat that you have connections with the neighbors and are learning the local fixes for electrical mishaps. this is one of my favorites!

Spring break whirlwind!

I am sorry that I haven't posted this week. Diesel, I am so glad you figured out how to leave comments- we commented back on some of them! It was good to hear from you. I will try and do a catch up and post and then try to post more regularly next week...when time slows down, again. Nanny, I hope you made it home okay. The little engines were asking about you all day. We went over how you will be back, several times. I think they get it : ) Of all the weeks we have had here in Italy, I can honestly say, none of them have gone fast- except this past week. We drove Nanny to the airport this morning and it seems like we were just there to pick her up! This time, we went the right direction and it took much less time, fancy that. (You would think that with a map and a car we would be okay, but it is seriously difficult to get around here. You have to know several towns past your destination town that might be marked on the signs and then might not be. For example, you want to go to Ven

Have a Very Merry Un-birthday to you, to you....

The tallest of the small is 6.5 years old. We had the usual half-birthday fun. At school, on her half-birthday, one of her friends told her that half birthdays aren't real. She mentioned this to me when she got off the bus. Then she asked me if half birthdays are "real." Hmmmmm. "What do you think?" I asked her (love that parenting technique). Well, she explained that lots of people don't celebrate their half birthdays, most people probably. But since we do, they are real for us. Sounds good to me : ) You get to celebrate their lives twice as many times- how can I resist, besides, it involves CAKE people! Happy half-birthday!
