Weekend Update

We always set out with a plan on the weekend. We usually hear of a festival or something that sounds like fun and we get the name of the city. Sir Toppham Hatt looks it up on the computer and we set off with the best of intentions. Rarely does our plan come to fruition. More often than not, we get to the town, and we can't find any festival or better yet, we can't even find the town. It's very strange indeed, so we have developed a different mind set. We have our goal and then we see what transpires and we are happy either way. (This is a challenge for we goal-setters, but I am getting the hang of it.)

This weekend was no exception! We set off to go to a "wine" festival in the town of Toppo, which is approximately 20 minutes' drive from here. We found the town and it wasn't very big mind you. We drove all the streets and there was no festival to be found.

So, we decided to go for a drive in the mountains and then we would stop if/when we saw anything of interest.

Percy kept herself limber during the long drive with some car-seat calisthenics.

We visited this church that's still being used- it is circa 1810.

Then we found this great rest stop. They serve sandwiches and have fresh fruit, coffee, etc. There's an awesome picnic area, of which we took full advantage.

They also sell this.....

wine by the 5 liter jug...and you bring the jug back for a refill. The jug was 10 Euro 30- a steal. The jug is about 6 bottles of wine, which possibly makes it cheaper than bottled water! When in Rome....

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Have a Very Merry Un-birthday to you, to you....

The tallest of the small is 6.5 years old. We had the usual half-birthday fun. At school, on her half-birthday, one of her friends told her that half birthdays aren't real. She mentioned this to me when she got off the bus. Then she asked me if half birthdays are "real." Hmmmmm. "What do you think?" I asked her (love that parenting technique). Well, she explained that lots of people don't celebrate their half birthdays, most people probably. But since we do, they are real for us. Sounds good to me : ) You get to celebrate their lives twice as many times- how can I resist, besides, it involves CAKE people! Happy half-birthday!
